Playing Texas Holdem Seriously
Texas Hold’em has grown in popularity through the first decade of the 21st century. Starting in Robstown, Texas, the game first had tournaments in Las vEgas. A group of men, in the 1960’s, brought the game to Las Vegas.
The richer gamblers who frequented Las Vegas took a while to catch on to the game. The game took off once it did get into the more glamorous casinos. Numerous books have been written about it and many televised shows have been made.
The World Series of Poker is the most famous televised show about Texas Hold’em. Its first tournament was in 2003, when an on the internet contestant, Chris Moneymaker, won a chance to play through the on the web game and then went on to win the entire pot. Many people were inspired to become the next to win millions from Texas Hold’em.
Of the seven cards in this version of a community type of poker, two are face down for only the players to see and the last five are set into the window. Before the players receive their cards two of them place blind bets, after which the rest of the players ante based on what two cards they were dealt. After all the players have decided if they’re going to stay in the game, the dealer then puts out three face up cards called the flop.
The two cards that the dealer dealt the players remain face down until the showdown at the end of the hand. The dealer places the remaining five cards into what’s called the window in middle of the table for all the players to see. These five community cards are shared by all the players to try to make their winning hands.
After the three community cards, or the flop, has been dealt, the real betting will begin. Using the three community cards in the window and the two face down cards they were dealt, the players will determine if their cards could possibly make a winning hand. After this decision, the player will decide if they’re going to stay in or fold.
The other players have the capability to either see the bet, raise the bet, or fold after the first player bets. A player bets the same amount as the original bettor when they’re “seeing” the bet. The players add an amount more to the bet when they’re raising the bet.
The players get four chances to bet. The first is before the initial three window cards are dealt, after the first three window cards, and one time after each of the next two window cards are dealt. Betting four times, plus the capability to raise a bet, gives Texas Hold’em players the opportunity to make the pot fairly huge.
The game of Texas Hold’em has three different forms. The three forms are Limit Hold’em, No-Limit Hold’em, and Pot-Limit Hold’em. The limit version the bets are set amounts which are called big bet and small bet.
In No-Limit, a small blind starts the betting with the player to the left of the dealer and the next player bets the big blind. The large blind is usually twice the size of the small blind. The players who want to stay in will bet equal amounts to the massive blind once all the players have received their hole cards.
When the river, the last card dealt, is laid on the window, and the final bet has been made, the game ends. There’s a showdown depending upon if more than one player has not folded his hand. The game of Texas Hold’em ends when the player with the ideal hand wins.
